Three of Beverly Cleary’s Ramona books are featured on the Top 100 Children’s Books list, and this one happens to be my favorite out of all of them. During this episode of Ramona’s life, she experiences troubles at school, trouble at the babysitter’s, and trouble with sickness. But in true Quimby style, she comes out of each chapter no worse for the wear. Beverly Cleary has a magical way of truly connecting with Ramona’s character, describing scenes in her life that make the reader think they are back in the third grade. As you read through Ramona’s life, you can’t help but empathize with her so-called worries in life.
Ramona Quimby, Age 8 is a book I could read once a month for the rest of my life and never tire of it. Thanks to AfterWord books in Chicago for having affordable paperback copies of this novel, so I could purchase one on my recent trip there.
